Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences has been conferred with first ever Kautilya Award by Indian Economic Association (IEA) on occasion of its centenary year celebration. This prestigious award was given at the 100th Annual conference of the Indian Economic Association organized in Acharya Nagarjun University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Kautilya award recognizes the spectacular financial model of KIIT and KISS and Prof. Samanta's efforts to make it reach the present position with just Rs. 5000 as the seed money way back in 1992-93. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) received the National Award for Child Welfare-2017 on occasion of Children’s Day here on Tuesday. President of India Ram Nath Kovind gave away the award to Dr. Samanta for his outstanding performance in the field of tribal child development and welfare. Notably, KISS is a fully free, fully residential home for 27000 poorest of the poor indigenous children who are provided holistic education from Kindergarten to Post Graduation along with lodging, boarding, health care facilities besides vocational, life skill empowerment. Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Declared Deemed University First Tribal University in the World On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has been granted the University status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India vide its Letter No. F.9-14/2011-U-3 (A) dated 25/08/2017. It has become the first tribal university in India and in the entire world. Though Indira Gandhi National Tribal University has been established before, it enrolls students of all categories. On the other hand, KISS University is exclusively for tribal students. 71st Independence Day was celebrated in Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) and KIIT University with great vigor and verve. Dr. B.N. Nanda, Senior Economic Adviser, Government of India, attended the celebration as chief guest and hoisted the National Flag. He also took the salute at the parade of the students.
